Carl Lloyd-Brooks is a young and talented London artist in a state of flux on the eve of the private view exhibition which will determine his future. His relationship with the gallery assistant, who wishes to become an actress, and the surprise appearance of an old flame, who is already on the verge of great acting success, throws Carl into an identity crisis. With the help of friends, and the intervention of others, he chooses to make a bold personal change which creates a new attitude towards love and life.

State of the Heart is a romantic comedy, with a slightly dark satirical edge, set within a microcosm where the worlds of fine art and film acting collide.  It is an ensemble piece with an episodic style built around a five act structure.
